More Information:
Well, it's no "Secret" that the State Fair opens today, but that doesn't mean we aren't willing to let you in on some of our fave off-the-beaten-path tips to the Great Minnesota Get Together! First off, whenever we head to the fair we always have to stop at the Education Building. Sounds boring, no? Who wants to be "Educated" when there are cheese curds to be devoured? Well, this particular building houses a number of learning-inclined vendor booths that give away free stuff like magnets, key chains, and...condoms. It's also a good place to stop first because you can score a free bag to tote around all the other cool stuff you pluck up at the fair throughout the day. And don't fret - the cheese curd stand is right across the street. Another of our favorite haunts in Heritage Square. A flea market-style bazaar, this little mecca on the edge of the Fair Grounds (next to the Mighty Midway) hosts a slew of vendors shilling fanciful items like Chinese fans, sparkly beads, and collectible trinkets of all kinds. And of course a trip to the Fair is never complete without a pop-in to the Fine Arts Building, where close to 400 local artists have been selected from a pool of thousands of submissions to form an epic, juried group exhibit. See everything from sculpture to painting to photography and everything in between - all created by Minnesota artists (our favorite)! Between all the delectable fried foods on sticks, the fantastic people watching, and the wide range of entertainment, the State Fair is something we become sort of obsessed with each and every year. The Fair runs today through Labor Day. Today is "Thrifty Thursday" and tickets are $9 for adults and seniors and $6 for kids. Normal admission on other days is $11 for adults, $9 for seniors and $8 for kids. For more info visit www.mnstatefair.org.
